Rudy Gobert has been a mentor to Victor Wembanyama since the young Frenchman was just 15 years old, with several training videos featuring both players available online. On Friday, they faced each other for the first time in the NBA, marking a special moment for the two of them. Gobert praised Wembanyama’s dedication and hard work, noting the significant progress he has made in his game since the Summer League. He expressed pride in the young player’s fantastic progress thus far.
The Minnesota Timberwolves, led by Gobert, emerged victorious over the San Antonio Spurs with a score of 117-110. Despite this, Wembanyama put up an impressive fight, finishing the game with 29 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. Three of those blocks were made against his mentor, marking only the eighth time in nearly 700 NBA games that the center had three shots blocked by the same opponent.
